Build it Green Expo Speaker Request

March 18 - 20

The greening of business, development, government and consumer products is at an all time high and growing exponentially. Spreading the message of sustainability is an important goal. With that that in mind we have launched the Southwest Build-it-Green Expo & Conference to bring sustainability to the forefront of the public eye. The 2009 Southwest Build-It-Green Expo & Conference was a huge success with over 9,000 attendees. We're gearing up for 2010 and are looking forward to more informative and thought-provoking presentations at this year's conference. The dates for the 2010 BIG Conference have been set for March 18th-20th at the Phoenix Convention Center. We value your expertise regarding green building, sustainable business practices and other eco-friendly applications, and feel you'll be an invaluable addition to our program. Each speaker is encouraged to speak on their topic of expertise. There are still speaking slots available, if you're interested in participating in the conference as a speaker, feel free to contact me directly at kasia@azbigmedia.com or 602-424-8830.

Want to become a LEED AP or Green Associate under V3?

Join a study group in your area!

leedv3 Facilitated study groups in the Phoenix Metro area will be available to members after Greenbuild. We are still building the list, and have more than 50 signed up to date.  Don’t miss the Study Group Rollout!

Note:  We will cap this (pilot) facilitated study group at 100 people (goal is 10 groups of 10 study mates, with mentors/facilitators).

Facilitated or not, Phoenix Metro area or not, let us know if you want some study mates in your area, and the chapter will endeavor to connect you to others in your zip code.  E-mail Stephanie at Admin@usgbcaz.org , subject line:  “Sign me up!”

If you would like to explore becoming a LEED Study group facilitator, and help others become LEED Accredited Professionals, e-mail the chapter:  Admin@usgbc.org , subject line:  “Facilitator”.  This is a great way to build your network, help the chapter and your peers advance their knowledge and professionalism, and potentially earn a modest stipend.  You must currently hold your LEED AP designation to potentially become a LEED AP Study Group facilitator.  We hope to find 10 facilitators, for up to 10 small study groups across the Valley.

LEEDuser

New Tool for LEED 2009

LEEDuser contains tips and guidance, written by professionals in the field, on applying LEED credits and the LEED certification process. LEEDuser is a third-party resource not affiliated with USGBC or GBCI. For more information, please visit USGBC's LEED Resources page and click on visit LEEDuser.

LEED Online

At the login screen for LEED Online v3, anyone can submit feedback or errata to the USGBC by clicking the ‘Feedback' button at the bottom. Currently this tool is in development to include a dynamic form with a wider range of options and features.

There are a few things for you to be aware of regarding the feedback button:
  • The LOv3 feedback feature is currently not linked to GBCI's exam/credentialing and project certification feedback feature.
  • As noted in the text, the functionality for the feedback feature will be significantly updated in the coming months.
  • The two features will eventually be linked to provide a more streamlined location for customers to provide feedback.

More information regarding the feedback/errata feature, including the implementation process, will be available in the fall.

The Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT)

The Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) in Chicago is working with the US Green Building Council (USGBC) to develop a matrix that will assess the transportation energy intensity (TEI) of buildings.  TEI is a measure of the amount of energy associated with getting people to and from a specific building.

CNT is looking for businesses and organizations that would be willing to participate in data collection for the project.  Parties interested in participating would be asked to supply background information about the building in which they are located and send out an inquiry to building staff asking them to take a short survey that explores employee commuting patterns.

The building does not have to be LEED certified for inclusion in the project.  Below is a fact sheet with more information, please contact Sofia Becker at sbecker@cnt.org if you have any questions or would like to take part.
