THE GREEN ROOM GALLERY: MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AT THE ARIZONA SCIENCE CENTER
Saturday, November 7-January 2010, 10:00am - 5pm
Visit the Arizona Science Museum as it launches its green room gallery with an exhibit that highlights the often small, simple choices can make a dramatic impact on the social and environmental fabric of our community. The exhibit is presented in partnership with the Arizona Green Chamber of Commerce. Access to the 2,000 sq. foot gallery, located in the Sybil B Harrington Galleries of the Arizona Science Center, is free with general admission. The Arizona Science Center is located at 600 East Washington Street in Heritage and Science Park in downtown Phoenix directly east of the Phoenix Convention Center.
GOETHERMAL SHOWCASE BY GEOASIS
Tuesday-Friday, November 10-14, 4pm
Greenbuild exhibitor GeOasis is offering free tours and educational seminars of a geothermal technology application installed in a historic home in the Downtown Phoenix Alvarado Historic District. Conference attendees and interested members of the general public are invited for guided tours of a 1930s, Tudor-styled home that was retrofitted with modern geothermal technology in early 2009. An RSVP and reservation is necessary to participate on the tour. Geoasis will provide complimentary transportation from the Convention Center to the home site. TEMPE GREEN STREETS

Tempe is taking it to the streets – in a big, green way on Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 6 - 9 p.m. Downtown Tempe is the place to be for some good, green fun! You can shop Tempe’s carbon-neutral Market on Mill and Green Scene, featuring products created by local artists, growers and crafters; hear some great local musicians and performers at Music on Mill, celebrating Tempe’s vibrant music history; or have Drinks and Discussion at one of Tempe’s many charming restaurants. You can also bid on sustainable dog houses, visit the Market Garden, see a green film, and visit ASU Art Museum’s Defining Sustainability exhibition – among a variety of other fun, sustainable activities.

CANALSCAPE EXHIBITION OPENING EVENT

Visit the ASU Art Museum in Tempe to view an ASU-initiated project to transform urbanism in the Phoenix region by creating vital urban hubs where canals meet major streets. ENVIRONMENTAL IDEAS IN GREEN BUILDING

merzproject architecture + interiors + urban design, the award winning, innovative architecture firm is opening the doors of “THE LINK” to public, media and conference attendees of Greenbuild 2009, from November 10- 14, 2009 during the annual USGBC conference in Phoenix, AZ. merzproject is setting up a showcase exhibit, in conjunction with several selected partners, in their new headquarters building, to bring environmental ideas, related materials and services closer to the public and interested parties. The exhibit features work and materials from US companies with high involvement in green building.
“The Gallery”, on the lower level of the “THE LINK” will be open during the annual USGBC conference each day (November 10-14, 2009) from 10 am - 6 pm for viewing and information. “THE LINK” recently was awarded the “Best of 2009 Arizona for Interior Design/Tenant Improvement” by Southwest Contractor Magazine. Several other of merzproject’s award winning buildings are on display during the same time: “The Galleries at Turney” are part of the guided USGBC “ Contemporary Desert Tour”, which will take place during the conference week: “After Hours”, located on 116 West Mc Dowell in downtown Phoenix will be opening their lower level gallery space to the public. Celebrate with Green Street Scottsdale! Part celebration, part art exhibit, part music and beer festival, and all environmentally friendly, Green Street Scottsdale is a night on the town you won’t want to miss! Held in honor of the 2009 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, this exciting event in the downtown Arts District and the adjacent SouthBridge/Waterfront neighborhood will showcase Scottsdale’s long running commitment to sustainability. Activities in the Arts District will include the renowned Scottsdale ArtWalk, artist demonstrations and live music staged throughout the area. Over at SouthBridge and the Scottsdale Waterfront, enjoy more entertainment and restaurant specials as well as exhibitions showcasing a variety of sustainability initiatives in Scottsdale. DEFINING SUSTAINABILITY: USGBC Tempe Tours Reception

Tour particpants in Tempe are invited to a reception at the ASU Art Museum. Buses to return USGBC tour participants to the convention center will leave from the front of the Museum at 5:10pm. Light rail instructions/directions will be available for those who wish to remain and enjoy exhibitions and refreshments, and continue to network with participants, tour leaders and volunteers. From 4:30-5pm, curators are leading tours of the ASU Art Museum facility, art and design projects. Refreshments generously provided by Whole Foods, Hensley & Co. and Friends of the ASU Art Museum.

PHOENIX GREEN STREETS FESTIVAL

The Green Streets Festival in downtown Phoenix is a free community event open to the public on Friday, celebrating green initiatives, sustainability, arts and urban living. It will feature local arts and crafts vendors, locally-grown food prepared by some of the Valley’s favorite chefs, and a beer garden with seasonal local brews hosted by Arizona’s Four Peaks Brewing Company. The first-ever Green Zone on East Roosevelt Street between 4th Street and 7th Street will feature demonstrations and low-cost booths for vendors showcasing eco-friendly, sustainable products and services and information about energy and water saving resources, rebates and programs. An optional downtown Pub Crawl 9pm – 1am will cap off the celebration. 3RD ANNUAL DOWNTOWN PHOENIX PUB CRAWL

Take part in the Pub Crawl competition by collecting beads from participating locations and end the night at the after hour breakfast location. The Pub Crawl will start on 4th Street and Garfield at 9pm with free Trolley buses available until 3:30 a.m. to move participants to and from participating locations. Participants will enjoy an easy, minimal elevation change run around the Rio Salado river bed. The run starts at the Tempe “Beach Park” at Mill and Rio Salado and then follows the south bank to Rural Rd (developed path), crosses over the river bed to the north shore and traces back to Mill Ave to cross back over the river and complete the run. The entire path is paved and easily pedestrian accessible. An open mic will be available to tell stories, share challenges and answer questions. Awards will be given to five new homes and the MNA. Following the Mixer, the celebration continues at the Orpheum Theater at 8 pm where the acoustic string band Hot Buttered Rum performs their plugged-in, percussive powerhouse music. As the last stop on the Greenbuild: Contemporary Desert Living Tour, Optima Camelview Village will provide the perfect backdrop for the culmination of the week’s festivities as one of the most energy-efficient, eco-friendly, and lush developments in Arizona.
