What's New at the Southern Branch

Southern Branch Governing Council
Chair Arthur Stables, CCS, LEED AP

arthur_stables_90x120

Arthur is the specifier/estimator and LEED coordinator at BWS Architects, the architectural firm where he has worked happily for sixteen years.  He has been working on LEED projects for about nine years and achieved the only Bronze certification in Arizona.  He was active in helping to establish the Southern Branch of the Arizona Chapter of USGBC.  Arthur believes that designing well in the desert sensitizes you to environmental conditions that affect the planning and performance of your buildings.  LEED provides a framework to validate that design practice for everyone to see, and serves as a basic guideline to better, more sustainable building to ensure the well-being of future generations..

 Vice Chair

Nate Riggle, RA

As a dad, husband, and architect, Nate believes that humanity's greatest challenge and responsibility is stewardship of the Earth so that future generations may enjoy and benefit from its wealth of resources. Accordingly, he's been an active participant with the Branch since November, 2006, and, in addition to sitting on the Governing Council Executive Committee, serves as Communications Committee chair and Branch webmaster. Nate was elected to the Arizona Chapter's Board of Directors in early 2009. He will succeed Arthur Stables as Branch Chair in January, 2011..

His experimentation with alternative building methods have encouraged the use of straw-bale, adobe, as well as technically advanced wall systems. Current projects include several LEED-registered rural fire stations with either Certified or Silver certification goals. DESA’s work has been recognized in several publications, including Metal Architecture and Fire Chief. He has also received an AIA-Sunset Western Home Award from Sunset magazine. Dave is a founding member of the Southern Branch.
